Oil Spill In The First Due |
| Thu, May 20th, 2010 10:24:00 pm -
Tonight crews were dispatched on the 456-3 box for a reported bus on fire. Initial information by Dauphin County Communications reported that a bus was on fire in the area of Paxton Street and Mushroom Hill Road. As Engine 456 responded, updated information from a 456 Firefighter on scene reported that the bus had possibly just blown its motor and there was oil on the roadway. The updated location was to be in the area of Walmart. Upon arrival, Chief 456-1 (Orth) held the box to Engine 456 and Engine 45. Crews encountered several gallons of oil on the roadway behind the tour bus. The Driver reported experiencing motor problems and just prior to finding a safe location to park the bus, the motor went out on him and spilled oil onto the roadway. Crews placed approximately 200 Lbs. of absorbent onto the roadway. Fire Police responded to assist and used their new traffic control signboard for assistance behind the disabled bus. The DEMA Haz-Mat Representative was also contacted as a precaution and notified of the situation. Crews remained on scene for approximately 1 hour. |
