This afternoon, the OIC was paged to assist PD with a duck rescue. Chief 456-1 took the call and responded to assist. Upon arrival, Officer Smith of Swatara Police was on scene and directed Chief 456-1 to the retention pond located behind the Gold's Gym and beside Target at the High Point Commons. There a duck was found to be entangled in some landscaping mesh that was used to plant the grass in the bottom of the retention pond. Apparently the duck who was cooling off in the pond due to the hot weather, took a plunge and entangled his entire body in the netting. Truck 456 was dispatched to assist. The truck responded with a crew of 4 and upon arrival went right to work to rescue the duck. In a short amount of time, the duck was untangled by Firefighter Traino and cut loose via a pair of trauma sheers. The duck appeared to be uninjured and was released to join the rest of the ducks that were awaiting his safe rescue. Prior to leaving approximately 15 more ducks came back in to swim in the pond. Pictures to follow. |
